一树参天

从前有一片森林，森林里全都是小树。这些小树是一个老人种的。老人想让这些树长得笔直而健康。然而，这个地区常遭大风侵袭。为了避开强风，小树喜欢弯曲枝干以保护自己。老人知道，这样下去，它们不会长好。老人花了很长时间给每一棵树干上绑上支撑物，希望小树了解他的良苦用心。但是那些调皮的小树忍受不了疼痛，它们总是弯曲蜷缩起身体，借以避开风。只有一棵小树不怕痛苦，长得很高大。

二十年后，老人故去。小树可以随心所欲的生长，再也没有人来规范它们。但是那棵树决定依然按照树的标准去成长。

随着森林的生长，这些小树长得越来越大，越来越密。他们听到了来自内部的断裂声。树木需要继续生长，可由于它们的弯曲，使这种生长很不正常，也很痛苦。每个白天和黑夜，森林深处，人们都能听到树木的断裂声和枝权折断声。

然而，在森林中央，屹立着一棵高大挺直的树，它与众不同，引人注目。它生长在万千又矮又弯的小树中间。那棵树，也只有那棵树，从没发生过断裂，还在一如既往地长啊长。强风从没有成为它的忧虑，因为大风根本无法撼动它。

There was once a forest made of tiny trees. They had been planted by an old man. He wanted them all to grow up to be straight and healthy. However, the area was stricken by strong winds. The little trees preferred to avoid the strong winds above them, so they bent their trunks and branches to protect themselves. The old man knew they could never grow well like this. He spent many hours tying their little trunks to supporting posts, hoping the trees understand what he was doing was for their own good. But those naughty trees didn’t want to suffer. They always bent and twisted themselves, hiding from the winds. Only one of those trees forced itself to grow tall.

Twenty years later, the old man died. From then on, the trees could grow in the ways they liked, with nobody bothering them about it. But that tree still decided to grow up just as a tree should.

As the forest grew and the trees got thicker and stronger, they began to hear cracks from the inside. Their branches and trunks needed to keep growing, but the trees were so twisted that the unusual growth only brought them pain. Each day and night, on the depths of the forest, one could hear the cracking and snapping of the trees.

However, in its centre rose one impressive tree that was long and straight like no other. It was surrounded by thousands of short and twisted trees. And that tree, the only one that never cracked, continued growing and growing. And it didn’t have to worry about the winds because they couldn’t blow it down at all.
