【赫临译笔】相处 - 心云驛站

一天,风和日丽，一对七十岁的夫妇步入了一家律师事务所。很明显，他们来此办理离婚手续。律师大惑不解，经过交谈，他知道了来龙去脉。

这对夫妇结婚四十年，也争吵了四十年，似乎没有一件顺心事。之所以能坚持下来，是因为孩子们，他们不想影响对孩子们的抚养。现在，所有的孩子都已长大成人，成家立业，再也没有后顾之忧，他们只想摆脱这段多年不幸的婚姻，过上自己的生活，因此双方都同意离婚。

律师好不容易才把文件准备好，他感觉难以理解这对老夫妇，七十高龄，四十年婚姻，为什么还想离婚。

当他们签字时，妻子对丈夫说：“我真的爱你，也真的不能继续下去了，我很遗憾。”

“没什么，我理解。”丈夫说。看到这一切，律师建议三个人一起吃顿饭。妻子想，好啊，反正我们还会做朋友的。

上的第一道菜是烤鸡，老人立刻把鸡腿递给老太太：“吃吧，这是你最爱吃的。”

看到这些，律师想也许还有转机。但是妻子皱着眉头回答：“这正是问题所在，你总是自以为是，从不考虑我的感受，你难道不知道我最讨厌吃鸡腿吗？”

她根本不知道，这些年来，丈夫一直在想方设法取悦她，她也不知道鸡腿是她丈夫最爱吃的。

他也不知道妻子一直认为自己根本不理解她，他也不知道妻子讨厌吃鸡腿，尽管自己只想对她好。

那天夜里，两人辗转反侧，难以成眠，几个小时后，老人再也受不了了，他知道自己依然爱着老伴，没有她自己无法生活，他想让她回来，他想和她说声对不起，他想告诉她：“我爱你。”

在电话的另一端，她很伤心，她不明白为什么过了这么多年，他还是一点也不理解自己，她很爱他，但就是受不了了。电话铃声在响，她知道是他，就是不接。“既然一切都结束了，还有什么好谈的。这是我想要的结果，我想保持这种局面，否则我会很丢脸。”她想。电话铃一直在想，她决定拔掉电话线。

第二天，她得到了他去世的消息。她冲到他的公寓，看见他躺在沙发上，手里依然握着电话。一定是他还在试图拔通她电话时，突发了心脏病。

尽管很悲伤，她还得整理他的遗物。当她查看抽屉时，她看到了这张保单，日期是他们结婚的日子，受益人是自己。这张便条和文件放在一起。

“致我最亲爱的妻子，当你读到这些文字时，我确定我已不在人世，我为你买了这张保单，尽管数额只有一百美元，但我只希望它能帮我继续完成我结婚时对你做出的承诺。我可能不在你身边了，我想让这些钱继续照顾你，正如假如我能活下来，我会继续照顾你一样。我想让你知道我会一直在你身边，伴你左右。我爱你。”

当你爱一个人时，要让他/她知道。谁都不知道下一分钟会发生什么。学会相处，学会互相关爱，只为彼此，不为其它。

One fine day, an old couple around the age of 70, walks into a lawyer's office. Apparently, they are there to file a divorce. Lawyer was very puzzled, after having a chat with them, he got their story.

This couple had been quarreling all their 40 over years of marriage nothing ever seems to go right. They hang on because of their children, afraid that it might affect their up-bringing. Now, all their children have already grown up, have their own family, there's nothing else the old couple have to worry about, all they wanted is to lead their own life free from all these years of unhappiness from their marriage, so both agree on a divorce.

Lawyer was having a hard time trying to get the papers done, because he felt that after 40 years of marriage at the age of 70, he couldn't understand why the old couple would still wants a divorce.

While they were signing the papers, the wife told the husband. "I really love you, but I really can't carry on any more, I'm sorry."

"It's OK, I understand." said the husband. Looking at this, the lawyer suggested a dinner together, just three of them, wife thought, why not, since they are still going be friends.

The first dish was roasted chicken, immediately, the old man took the drumstick for the old lady. "Take this, it's your favorite."

Looking at this,the lawyer thought maybe there's still a chance, but the wife was frowning when she answer. "This is always the problem, you always think so highly of yourself, never thought about how I feel, don't you know that I hate drumsticks?"

Little did she know that, over the years, the husband have been trying all ways to please her,little did she know that drumsticks was the husband's favorite.

Little did he know that she never thought he understand her at all, little did he know that she hates drumsticks even though all he wants is the best for her.

That night, both of them couldn't sleep, toss and turn,toss and turn. After hours, the old man couldn't take it any more, he knows that he still loves her, and he can't carry on life without her, he wants her back,he wants to tell her, he is sorry, he wanted to tell her, "I love you."

He picks up thephone, started dialing her number. Ringing never stops. He never stop dialing.

On the other side,she was sad, she couldn't understand how come after all these years, he still doesn't understand her at all, she loves him a lot, but she just can't take it any more. Phone's ringing, she refuses to answer knowing that it's him."What's the point of talking now that it's over. I have asked for it and now. I want to keep it this way, if not I will lose face." She thought.Phone still ringing. She has decided to pull out the cord.

The next day, she received news that he had passed away. She rushed down to his apartment, saw his body, lying on the couch still holding on to the phone. He had a heart attack when he was still trying to get through her phone line.

As sad as she could be. She will have to clear his belongings. When she was looking thru the drawers, she saw this insurance policy, dated from the day they got married,beneficiary is her. Together in that file there's this note.

"To my dearest wife, by the time you are reading this, I'm sure I'm no longer around, I bought this policy for you, though the amount is only $100, I hope it will be able to help me continue my promise that I have made when we got married, I might notbe around anymore, I want this amount of money to continue taking care of you,just like the way I will if I could have live longer. I want you to know I will always be around, by your side. I love you."

When you love someone, let them know. You never know what will happen the next minute. Learn to build a life together. Learn to love each other for who they are. Not what they are.
