[ 本帖最后由匿名于 2014-3-25 19:53 编辑 ]\n\n忠诚的约翰 3荷叶/译       “噢，有，”第二只乌鸦说：“如果一个戴手套的人抓起礼服，把它扔到火里烧掉，新王就得救了。但这怎么可能呢？无论是谁只要说出去，他一半的身体，从心脏到膝盖就会化为石头。”       接着，第三只乌鸦说：“我还知道，即使礼服被烧掉，新王仍然留不住他的新娘。婚礼过后，年轻的王后会在舞会上突然变得脸色苍白，即而昏倒，像死人一样。如果没有人将她扶起，并从她的右乳房吸取三滴血，并吐出来，她就会死亡。如果知道这件事的人说出来的话，他会从头顶到脚跟化为石头。”三只乌鸦说完这些话后，它们继续向前，飞走了。忠诚的约翰听懂了这一切，从那时起，他变得沉默寡言，愁容满面。因为如果他隐瞒这些，不幸就会降临到主人头上；如果他说出这些，就要牺牲自己的生命。最后，他自言自语道：“我要救他的命，哪怕最后会毁灭自己。”
   于是，当他们上岸时，乌鸦预言的一切都应验了。一匹雄壮的栗色马飞奔而来。“太好了，”国王说：“我要乘这匹马回王宫。”他刚要上马，忠诚的约翰赶到前面，迅速跳上去，从皮套里取出手枪，将马打死。随后，那些平时不大喜欢忠诚的约翰的侍从大声叫喊起来：“杀死这么漂亮的马，简直太不像话了，它可是要驮国王回宫的。”但国王却说：“闭嘴，别理他，他是我最忠诚的约翰，说不定这样做会有好处呢。”他们走进王宫。大厅里有一托盘，上面放着结婚礼服，看上去与金银锻造的一般无二。年轻的国王走过去，刚要伸手去抓，忠诚的约翰将他一把推开，用戴着手套的手抓起了礼服，迅速拿到火上烧掉了。其他侍从又开始报怨起来：“瞧，他现在竟然烧掉了国王的结婚礼服！”但年轻的国王却说：“谁知道这样做会有什么好处呢？别理他，他是我最忠诚的约翰。”
   现在举行了隆重的婚礼，舞会开始了，新娘也参加了舞会，忠诚的约翰留心观察，盯着她的脸看，突然，她变得脸色苍白，像死人一样摔倒在地。看到这一切，他迅速跑过去，扶起她，进了一间屋子。然后，把她放下，跪下来，从她的右乳房吮吸了三滴血，吐了出来。她立刻呼出了一口气，恢复过来。但年轻的国王看到了这一切，他不知道忠诚的约翰的用意，非常生气地大叫：“把他打入地牢。”第二天早上，忠诚的约翰被判死刑，他被带到了绞刑架上，当他站在高高的绞架上，就要行刑时，他说：“每个死刑犯临终时都可以发表最后的演讲，我有这项权利吗？”“是的，”国王说：“你当然有。”然后忠诚的约翰说：“我是被冤枉的，我一直对您很忠诚。”随后他讲了自己怎样在大海上听到了乌鸦的讲话，他怎样为了救主人不得以做了这些事。接着，国王喊道：“噢，我最忠诚的约翰，原谅我，原谅我，把他放下来。”但当忠诚的约翰说完最后一个字时，他已从绞架上摔下来，化为一块毫无生气的石头。                于是，国王和王后都陷入了极度痛苦之中，国王说：“啊，我怎能这样报答他的赤胆忠心！”他命令把这个石像搬到自己的卧室里，放在自己的床边。他经常一边看他，一边哭着说：“我要是能让你死而复生就好了，我最忠诚的约翰。”过了一段时间，王后生了对双胞胎，两个儿子长得很快，他们成了王后的快乐所在。一次，王后去做礼拜，两个孩子坐在爸爸身边玩耍，国王又充满忧伤地看着石像。叹着气说：“啊，如果我能让你死面复生就好了，我最忠诚的约翰。”这时，石像开口讲话了，它说：“如果你可以为此牺牲你最珍贵的东西，你可以使我死而复生。”国王叫道：“为了你，我可以牺牲我在世上拥有的一切。”石像继续说：“如果你亲手砍下这两个孩子的头颅，把他们的血洒在我身上，我就会死而复生。”

"Oh, yes," replied the second,"if any one with gloves on seizes the garment and throws it into the fire and burns it, the young King will be saved. "But what avails that?"Whosoever knows it and tells it to him, half his body will become stone from the knee to the heart." Then said the third, "I know still more; even if the bridal garment be burnt, the young King will still not have his bride. After the wedding, when the dancing begins and the young queen is dancing, she will suddenly turn pale and fall down as if dead, and if some one does not lift her up and draw three drops of blood from her right breast and spit them out again, she will die. But if any one who knows that were to declare it, he would become stone from the crown of his headto the sole of his foot." When the ravens had spoken of this together,they flew onwards, and Faithful John had well understood everything, but from that time forth he became quiet and sad, for if he concealed what he had heard from his master, the latter would be unfortunate, and if he discovered it to him, he himself must sacrifice his life. At length, however, he said to himself, "I will save his life. At length, however bring destruction on myself."  When therefore they came to shore, all happened as had been foretold by the ravens,and a magnificent chestnut horse sprang forward. "Good," said theKing, "he shall carry me to my palace," and was about to mount it when Faithful John got before him, jumped quickly on it, drew the pistol out o fthe holster, and shot the horse. Then the other attendants of the King, who after all were not very fond of Faithful John, cried, "How shameful to kill the beautiful animal, that was to have carried the King to his palace." But the King said, "Hold your peace and leave him alone, he is my most faithful John, who knows what may be the good of that!" They went into the palace, and in the hall there stood a dish, and therein lay the bridal garment looking no otherwise than as if it were made of gold and silver.The young King went towards it and was about to take hold of it, but Faithful John pushed him away, seized it with gloves on, carried it quickly to the fire and burnt it. The other attendants again began to murmur, and said,"Behold, now he is even burning the King's bridal garment!" But theyoung King said, "Who knows what good he may have done, leave him alone,he is my most faithful John."  And now thewedding was solemnized: the dance began, and the bride also took part in it;then Faithful John was watchful and looked into her face, and suddenly sheturned pale and fell to the ground, as if she were dead. On this he ran hastily to her, lifted her up and bore her into a chamber -- then he laid her down, and knelt and sucked the three drops of blood from her right breast, and spat themout. Immediately she breathed again and recovered herself, but the young King had seen this, and being ignorant why Faithful John had done it, was angry and cried,"Throw him into a dungeon." Next morning Faithful John was condemned, and led to the gallows, and when he stood on high, and was about to be executed, he said,"Every one who has to die is permitted before his end to make one last speech; may I too claim the right?" "Yes," answered the King,"it shall be granted unto thee." Then said Faithful John, "I amunjustly condemned, and have always been true to thee," and he related how he had hearkened to the conversation of the ravens when on the sea, and how hehad been obliged to do all these things in order to save his master. Then cried the King, "Oh, my most Faithful John. Pardon, pardon -- bring him down." But as Faithful John spoke the last word he had fallen down lifeless and become a stone. There upon the King and the Queen suffered great anguish, and the King said, "Ah, how ill I have requited great fidelity!" and ordered the stone figure to be taken upand placed in his bedroom beside his bed. And as often as he looked on it he wept and said, "Ah, if I could bring thee to life again, my most faithful John." Some time passed and the Queen bore twins,two sons who grew fast and were her delight. Once when the Queen was at church and the two children were sitting playing beside their father, the latter full of grief again looked at the stone figure, sighed and said, "Ah, if I could but bring thee to life again, my most faithful John." Then the stone began to speak and said, "Thou canst bring me to life again if thou wilt use forthat purpose what is dearest to thee." Then cried the King, "I will give everything I have in the world for thee." The stone continued,"If thou wilt will cut off the heads of thy two children with thine own hand, and sprinkle me with their blood, I shall be restored to life."

有忠实的仆人，有忠实的主子吗？

能够为了仆人舍弃自己心爱的儿子性命的皇帝应该不会有。
