甘甜的泉水

一个年轻人在沙漠里旅行，遇到一股清泉。泉水很甜，他装满皮囊，想给教过他的一位长者带回去。经过四天跋涉，年轻人把水递给老人。老师喝了一大口，露出和蔼的微笑，非常感激学生给他带来了如此甘甜的泉水。年轻人很开心地回家了。

这个学生走后，老师让另一个学生尝了尝这个皮囊里的水。他吐了出来，说这太难喝了。很显然，这些水在皮囊里放得太久，已不再新鲜。他问老师：“先生，水这样难喝，你为什么还假装喜欢呢？”

老师答道：“你尝到的是水。我尝到的是礼物。这些水只是善意和爱戴的载体，没有什么比这更甘甜的了。”

当我们收到孩子们表达爱意的礼物时，对此理解得最为深刻。无论是一只廉价的烟斗，还是一条钻石项链，合适的反应都应该是欣赏。我们爱的是礼物的内含，而不是礼物本身。

A young man,while travelling through a desert, came across a spring of clear water. The water was sweet. He filled his leather container so that he could bring some backto an elder who had been his teacher. After a four-day journey, the young man presented the water to the old man. His teacher took a deep drink, smiled warmly, and thanked his student very much for the sweet water. The young man went home with a happy heart.

After the student left, the teacher let anotherstudent taste the water. He spit it out, saying it was awful. Apparently, it was no longer fresh because of the old leather container. He asked his teacher,“Sir, the water was awful. Why did you pretend to like it?”

The teacher replied, “You tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for an act of kindness and love.Nothing could be sweeter.”

We understand this lesson best when we receive giftsof love from children. Whether it is a cheap pipe or a diamond necklace, theproper response is appreciation. We love the idea within the gift rather than the thing.
