三个爸爸

杰克和莉迪亚与他们的朋友迈克和安娜正在法国度假。迈克对历史建筑很感兴趣，他想去参观几处，杰克同意和他一起去。但莉迪亚和安娜对历史建筑不感兴趣，她俩不想和他们一起去。她们决定进城逛商店。“回头见！”女孩们说。 走进村，杰克和迈克看见一个漂亮的教堂，信步走了进去。教堂里正在举行一个仪式。“嘘！咱们只静静地坐着，别人做什么咱就做什么，不要太显鼻子露脸。”迈克低声说。因为他俩不大懂法国，便一言不发地坐下了。仪式继续进行。只见人群站起、跪下又坐下，他俩也照做不误。“我希望咱们哪样都做对，不要被别人看出来咱是旅客。”迈克说。 只听牧师一声唤，坐在杰克和迈克身边的那个人站了起来。“我们也应该站起来。”杰克对迈克说。说着，和旁边这个人一样，他们也站了起来。突然，人群中爆发出一阵大笑。仪式结束后，他们来到懂点英语的牧师面前问：“大家在笑什么？”脸上挂着微笑，牧师回答说：“噢，孩子们，这里刚刚出生了一个婴儿，按照这儿的传统，应该请父亲站起来。” 杰克和迈克对视了一眼，迈克摇了摇头，觉得很不好意思。他惨然一笑，说：“我想我们在模仿别人之前，应该弄明白人家在做什么。”

Jack and Lydia were on holiday with their friends, Mike and Anna. Mike was interested in historical buildings, so he wanted to visit some. Jack agreed to go with him, too. But Lydia and Anna didn’t want to join them as historical buildings were not attractive to them. They decided to shop in the city. “See you boys when we get back!” the girls said. In the village, Jack and Mike saw a beautiful church, but when they entered it, a service was already in progress. “Shh! Just sit quietly so that we won’t stand out in the crowd. And act like the others!” Mike said in a low voice. Since they didn't really know French well, Jack and Mike sat down without said anything. During the service, they stood up, knelt down and sat down following what the rest of the crowd did. “I hope we do everything right and don’t look like tourists to them,” Mike told Jack. At one point, the priest made an announcement and the one who sat next to Jack and Mike stood up. “We should stand up, too. ” Jack said to Mike, so Jack and Mike did what the man did. Suddenly, all the people burst into laughter. After the service, Jack and Mike went to the priest, who could speak English. “What’s so funny?”Jack asked. With a smile on his face the priest said, “Well, boys, there is a new baby, and it’s a tradition to ask the father to stand up.” Jack and Mike looked at each other and Mike shook his head feeling embarrassed. He smiled and said, “I guess we should understand what people do before we imitate them.” |
