活下去的理由 荷叶/译 下面的故事讲述了一只红色的小狗救了一个人的性命。我并不是说这只小狗把一个人从着火的大楼时拖出来，或诸如此类的事情。它只是一条生病的小狗，但它却给了它的新主人活下去的理由。故事是这样发生的。 我们的女儿开车时睡着了，腿部严重受伤，是否能够再次走路都成了问题。唯一能使她提起精神的是他丈夫的看望。后来他丈夫在一场大火中丧生。 我相信一个宠物，尤其是一只小狗可以给人一个活下去的理由，就发疯似地寻找一只小狗。我女儿和她朋友说过她想要一只。我们住在乡下，找这只特别的小狗颇费了一番周折。 一天，我和丈夫去参加了一个乡村销售活动，我看见一只红色的小腊肠狗正在门口和其它的小狗玩耍。我问组织这次销售活动的妇女，她是否知道我到哪里可以买到这样的小狗。她告诉我她有一个养狗场，这只小狗就可以出售。我想：这真是天赐良机。 我们买下了这只小狗，开车回家，并给女儿挂了个电话。我们没有告诉她买小狗的事，而是问她能不能来她家和我家之间的一个小镇上接我们。当我们给她这一惊喜时，正如我们所料，小狗使她很兴奋。她抱起小狗，开始开车回家。我们的女儿接受了小狗，给它取名叫塞迪。 我女儿现在仍不时有伤心时刻，但每当这时，塞迪就会依偎在她身边，或去攻击比它大三倍的猫，然后不得不求救。塞迪给了我女儿一个活下去的理由。 附：原文 This is a story about a little red puppy she savedsomeone’s life. I don’t mean the puppy dragged someone out of a burningbuilding or something of the kind……She was just a little sick puppy but shegave her new owner something for which to live. Here’s is the story. Our daughter went to sleep driving her car. She hadmassive damage to her legs and it was questionable if she could ever walkagain. The only thing that promoted her spirit was her husband’s visits. Laterhe was killed in a house fire. Believing that pets, dogs in particular, could give areason to live, I hunted madly for a little puppy---that’s what her friend hadand our daughter had remarked that she’d like to have one. We live in a ruralarea and I was having a hard time finding this particular puppy. My husband and I had gone to a country sale one daywhen I saw a little red dachshund puppy playing at the doorway with some otherdogs. I asked the woman having the sale if she knew where I could get a puppylike hers. She told me she owned a dog kennel and this puppy was for sale. Whatgood luck, I thought. We bought the dog, drove home and called our daughter.We didn’t tell her we had the puppy but asked if she could meet us in a townhalfway between our home and hers. When we gave her the surprise, she was asthrilled over the puppy as we had hoped she would be and hugged the puppy to her as she started her drive home. Our daughter took the puppy, whom she namedSadie. Our daughter still had her sad moments but now, whenshe dies, Sadie will lean close to her or attack the cat that is three timesbigger than her and has to be rescued. Sadie gave our daughter a reason tolive.
