I was like any other child on Christmas morning. I looked forward to receiving presents, opening them and seeing what I got. I had two brothers and a sister, and we would all take turns opening gifts. My dad and mum love to see the joy in our eyes. For me, those were some happy times. Our family were together there and it just seemed to be a time of happiness at our home. I think my parents seemed to enjoy watching us opening our presents more than receiving presents themselves. But one Christmas all that changed. My goal was to get my mum a nice present, but what? I didn't have much money, then my dad helped me buy a present. It was a necklace. I didn’t remember what it looked like, but I do remember it was pretty. I got a really big box, and then another smaller box and them another smaller box and so forth. I wrapped each box and put them in the bigger box. There are around 7 boxes in all. I remember when my mum was opening the big box her eyes were wide open I could tell she was excited. Then when she got it opened and saw the next box she was more excited than she opened the first one. She finally got to the last box and opened it, but guess what? I had forgotten to put the necklace in it. When found it was empty, she seemed not to care because she had so much fun opening the gift. But when I gave her the necklace, tears started forming in her eyes. The funny thing is that I don't even remember I what I got that year, but I do remember what I gave. I learned a valuable lesson. It is better to give than to receive. |
