一杯牛奶

一天,一个贫穷的男孩正在挨门挨户兜售商品以凑学费,他发现兜里只有一角钱,饥饿地他决定在下一家讨口饭吃。
然而,当一个可爱的少妇打开家门时,他勇气顿失。他没有要饭而是要了口水喝。少妇认为他看上去很饿,因此给他端来一杯奶。他慢慢喝下,然后问:“我该付多少钱?”
“不必付钱,”她回答:“妈妈教我与人为善,分文不取。”他说:“那么请接受我发自内心地感谢。”当霍华德-凯利离开这家时,他不仅感觉身上有了劲,而且更加相信上帝和人类了。他之前已打算放弃了。

附:原文 One day, apoor boy who was trying to pay his way through school by selling goods door todoor found that he only had one dime left. He was hungry so he decided to begfor a meal at the next house.
However, helost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal heasked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him alarge glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I oweyou?” “You don'towe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for akindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” As HowardKelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it alsoincreased his faith in God and the human race. He was about to give up and quitbefore this point.
Years laterthe young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. Theyfinally sent her to the big city, where specialists can be called in to studyher rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly, now famous was called in for theconsultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange lightfilled his eyes. Immediately, he rose and went down through the hospital hallinto her room.
Dressed inhis doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He wentback to the consultation room and determined to do his best to save her life.From that day on, he gave special attention to her case.
After a longstruggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to passthe final bill to him for approval. He looked at it and then wrote something onthe side. The bill was sent to her room. She was afraid to open it because shewas positive that it would take the rest of her life to pay it off. Finally shelooked, and the note on the side of the bill caught her attention. She readthese words...
