真相并非总停留在表面

两位游历的天使停在一个富裕之家，准备过夜。这家人很不礼貌，不让天使住在华宅的客房。而是给他们在冰冷的地下室里找了一小块地方。当天使们在坚硬的地板上铺床时，年纪大些的天使看到墙上有个洞，就动手把它修好了。当年轻的天使询问理由时，老天使说：“真相并非总停留在表面。”

第二天夜里，这对天使来到了一个非常贫穷但极为好客的家庭住下。天使们先是分吃了主人家仅有的一点食物，然后被主人夫妇安排睡在自己的床上，这一夜他们睡得很安稳。当第二天太阳出来时，天使们发现主人夫妇在抹眼泪。原来他家唯一的奶牛倒地死亡了，这头牛产的奶是他家唯一的收入。年轻的天使被激怒了，他质问老天使他怎么可以允许这种事情发生。“第一家应有尽有，你却帮助他家。第二家一贫如洗，还愿意与我们分享一切，你却听任他家的奶牛死掉。”

“真相并非总停留在表面。”老天使回答：“当我们住在豪宅的地下室时，我发现墙洞里封藏着金子。由于主人惑于贪欲，不愿与人分享他的好运，我把墙洞封堵上，让他发现不了金子。”

“昨晚当我们睡在主人床上时，小鬼来向他妻子索命，我让奶牛替了她。真相并非总停留在表面。”

Things Aren’t Always What They Seem

Two traveling angles stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.The family was rude and refused to let the angles stay in the mansion’s guestroom. Instead the angles were given a small space in the cold basement. Asthey made their bed in the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angle asked why, the older angle replied,“Things aren’t always what they seem.”
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing the little food they had the couple let the angles sleep in their bed where they could have a good night’srest. When the sun came up the next morning the angles found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angle was infuriated and asked the older angle how he could have let this happen. “The first man had everything, yet you helped him,”he accused. “The second family had little but was willing to share everything,and you let the cow lie”.
“Things aren’t always what they seem,” the older angle replied. “when we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn’t find it.”

“Then last night as we slept in the farmer’s bed, the angle of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren’t always what they seem.
