忠诚的约翰4

听到必须杀死自己最爱的儿子，国王吓坏了，但国王想到了忠诚的约翰的赤胆忠心，想到了他怎样为自己而死，他拔出宝剑，亲手砍下了两个孩子的头颅。当他把两个孩子的血涂抹在石头上时，石像的生命回来了，忠诚的约翰又一次完好无损地站在国王面前。他对国王说：“您的真心会得到报答的。”他把两个孩子的头颅重新安上，用他们的血擦了擦伤口，伤口立刻就长上了。两个孩子跳起来，继续玩耍，好像什么事情也没发生过一样。这时，国王非常高兴。看到王后回来，他把忠诚的约翰和两个孩子藏在了大壁橱里。等她进来，对她说：“你去教堂做祈祷了吗？”“嗯，”国后回答：“但我常常想到忠诚的约翰，想到我们给他带来多大的不幸。”这时，国王说：“亲爱的，我们可以使他死而复生，但代价是，我们必须牺牲两个儿子。”王后变得脸色苍白，心中充满恐惧，但她说：“这是我们欠他的，为了他的赤胆忠心。”两人想的一模一样，此时，国王非常高兴，他走过去，打开壁橱，放出了忠诚的约翰和两个孩子，并说：“感谢上帝，他被送回来了，我们也再次拥有了两个儿子。”接着，告诉了她所发生的一切。此后，他们非常快乐地生活在一起，直至死亡。 附：原文 The King was terrified when he heard that he himself must kill his dearest children, but he thought of faithful John's great fidelity,and how he had died for him, drew his sword, and with his own hand cut off the children's heads. Then the King was full of joy, and when he saw the Queen coming he hid Faithful John and the two children in a great cupboard. When she entered, he said to her, "Hast thou been praying in thechurch?" "Yes," answered she, "but I have constantly been thinking of Faithful John and what misfortune has befallen him throughus." Then said he, "Dear wife, we can give him his life again, but it will cost us our two little sons, whom we must sacrifice." The Queenturned pale, and her heart was full of terror, but she said, "We owe it tohim, for his great fidelity." Then the King was rejoiced that she thought as he had thought, and went and opened the cupboard, and brought forth Faithful John and the children, and said, "God be praised, he is delivered, and wehave our little sons again also," and told her how everything had occurred. Then they dwelt together in much happiness until their death.
